My son and I watched the DVD "The Best There Ever Was . . ." over the
holidays, and this has been nagging at me. Assuming someone here saw
it, did you get the feeling that we'll never really know what caused
the breach between Bret and Vince? I don't mean all the details, but
the proximate cause.
It was filmed very cleverly, but neither Bret nor Vince actually said
what happened. Vague references, fan interviews, but I thought it was
all left hanging. Great DVD, but the principles themselves didn't say
one word as to the cause.

I didn't see the DVD but I've always assumed that it was fallout from
the "Montreal screwjob" where Vince ordered the referee to ring the
bell early, thus forcing Bret to the lose the WWE title on his last
night in WWE in his home country. Mostly it seems to be more a matter
of two big egos whom are both unwilling to admit that they made a
mistake.

IAWTP. I recall seeing a documentary about the Brett Hart, while the
schism was still active (i think it was this one:
. It chronicles (among other thigns) the Montreal Screwjob and thigns
that led up to it,incluidng McMahon's promise to let Bret win that and
retire. Note that this deocumentary is primarily from Bret's viewpoint
so Vince's POV may be different. The one memorable scene is after the
match, Bret orders the cameras off while he goes an dmeets in private
with McMahon. Later, we see McMahon woozily exiting the room as if he
were just punched or soemthign!
