What a comedown from its original Dancing with the Stars-Lost-The Nine
combo that kicked off the season. Last night's new lineup of Show Me
the Money, Day Break and The Nine showed no ratings strength at all,
with 5.3, 3.4 and 2.8, respectively. The night's average took quite a

Ah well Day Break will probably do OK in DVD sales.

dive, from what was usually a 9.5 to a 3.8. Isn't that about a 60%
hit, if my quick math is right? But I predicted ABC would lose tons of
steam once it took off Dancing and Lost, and with just a little over 5
weeks left before January, my prediction still holds that NBC can still
narrow the gap between it and ABC in the first quarter averages and
come on top as No. 2 before mid-season begins, if just by a sliver.

Considering it was the beginning of the holiday weekend when a huge
number of people are either on the road or busy doing things other than
watching TV, one should be leery of drawing any real conclusions from
last night's ratings.

Considering the Tiffany network skews older, that demo is less likely to
travel, but rather be the destination.
IOW, if ABC dropped so much, shouldn't CBS (and NBC and Fox) gotten a bump
up?

No, obviously. The first thing people do when they reach their
Thanksgiving travel destination is not to turn on the TV there.
Assuming they even get there in time to watch the TV show. ("Hi,
Grandma! Long time no see! Happy Thanksgiving! Can I go watch
Criminal Minds on your living room TV now?")
Thanksgiving travel can only detract from the ratings of shows. It
can't add to them.
