OK, um...that robot has a toilet plunger for an arm. A weapon,
actually. That's really there, right, I'm not hallucinating it am I?
shawn...
|
Yep, it's really there. It's a lot more usable than the old Daleks,
but it's still a toilet plunger.
|
Captain Infinity...
|
Yes, I learned that at the end of the episode but I didn't know it at
the time of my posting. Thank you for the information, though.

Oh hell, he's a goober and she knows it. She's better off without him.

It was part of the original design. And as you can see, quite functional.

They've had them for about thrity years now, but this was the first time
it's actually been used (sorry, but the whole stairs problem was
explained ten years ago).

Which ones do you refer to?

Sean Huxter...

It was explained in "Remembrance of the Daleks" which was a bit more than 10
years ago. We saw Daleks hover in the 80s. Seriously, how can any race
conquor the universe without the ability to negotiate terrain?
In fact in '60s comics, they always showed Daleks flying, usually on small
round hover platforms. We just never saw that in the TV show.
|
Captain Infinity...
|
OK, the stairs: if the Dalek can "el-ev-ate", why does it still bother
to follow the path of the stairs? Why not just fly in a straight line
up the stairwell towards its intended victim?
ANIM8Rfsk...
|
May as well ask why it flew really slowly, or didn't take a shot at 'em
while it had 'em in it's sites.
But unless there's a large central shaft the stairs wrap around, you have to
follow the corkscrew path, even if you're flying.

.
They can only elevate a few meters (like a hovercraft), and so they
still need to follow the path.
BTW weren't Daleks shown to elevate in the Seventh Doctor episodes?

Daleks are a bunch of big drama queens.
doctor...

And declining ones at that.
pbowles...

I wouldn't say that - they've come back from extinction so many times

now that they must rank as one of the great conservation success
stories.

Even after Parting of the Ways, I believe Daleks are out there.

I'm not surprised....there was a black season 3 version unveiled at the
BAFTA awards so it's a sure thing...also rumours that they'll turn up in the
Cyber finali to end season 2....

Banisters / railings.
Tim Bruening...
|
Can't it break or blast through the railings?
|
|
Sean Huxter...
|
Because stairwells are built that way. The square spiralling leaves no room
for a direct path to the target.

I mean, I haven't had much sleep lately but I don't think I'm seeing
things. I'm not, am I?
shawn...
|
Nope, you are seeing what is really there.
|
OK, just checking.
shawn...
|
Not a problem...
LOL, you really should look at some of the older episodes. I've been
watching some of the Hartnell episodes and it's hilarious how bad the
monsters were from the very beginning. All because of the limited
budget that the BBC had. These new shows have a much bigger budget but
they still hold to some of the original ideas like the look of the
Cybermen and Daleks.
