The 2.3 rating is the percentage of adults 18-49 tuned in. The
household rating (percentage of households with a TV set) would be
higher.

Brett A. Pasternack...
Isn't it the other way around? They had 2.3 percent of all households
(in that age group) with a TV set, and 6 percent of those that were
actually watching television at the time, no?

So 2.3 isn't as terrible as it sounds although a show really needs at
least a 4.0 to be considered successful.

As an example, last week's top show with adults 18-49 (the most coveted
advertiser demographic) was American Idol Wednesday with an 11.7 -
that's unbelievably high. Grey's Anatomy was #3 with 9.7, House #4
with 8.7, Desperate Housewives #5 with 8.6, CSI #6 with 8.3, Lost #7
with 6.4, My Name is Earl tied with The Simpsons and Sopranos for #21

Have you watched the dramas and didn't like them, or just knew they weren't
your cup of tea?

I think you missed some really good TV, if you skipped the "House, MD" two
parter last week. Of course, you'd have to know something about the
characters' relationships to really appreciate those episodes.

I watch "House" and "Grey's Anatomy" for the humorous relationships; along
with "24" they're my favorite TV shows [since "WW" is cashing in].

with 4.0.

Brett A. Pasternack...
I can remember a time when anything less than a 30 share was a failure
for a network show. Of course, that was a time when there were very few
choices other than the networks.
(see subject)

I'm trying to determine if the fall in quality (season 4) was the
result of Sorkin leaving?

Aaron Bergman...
I don't remember which number it was, but it was after the season finale
where Bartlett's daughter was kidnapped.

Schmedley...
By "quit" it means "a mutual decision to end out relationship"

David Johnston...
The truth is, the fall in quality came first after Sorkin got busted.
Then he left.

I've only gotten as far as season two, much of the latter half of which I
thought was fairly dull (and much of it rehashed from Sports Night,
allowing for the different backdrops). It gets worse?

Right. To paraphrase Lincoln, send a case of mushrooms to all the
writers.

ALSO, does anyone know the ratings? Last I heard, WW is only
collecting 40% of its peak (7 milion vs. 17 million viewers). I think
it's quite amazing that this intelligent show became a Top 20 hit, and
I never would have guessed a show about "serious issues" would interest
so many viewers. I guess Americans are far more intelligent than most
people give them credit.
