The one about Little League. Back in the first few seasons, this would
be a five minute set-up, but this was a full ep. In it Stan's dad is
getting into training for grandstand fighting, including a Rocky-type
up at 5 am to run-- first breaking three eggs into a glass, like Rocky;
unlike Rocky, he then pours them into a frying pan and scrambles them.
Funny yes, when John Candy did it in SCTV's "Hefty" more than 20 years
ago. Maybe it was their homage, but all I could think of was the likely
reaction to someone borrowing a bit from South Park. When Michael Moore
did it in "Bowling for Columbine" the hissy fit worked its way into
"Team America".

I doubt it was a homage or even theft. My guess is that it was an
original idea, because I doubt Trey or Matt ever saw SCTV. SCTV aired
more than 20 years ago, and nobody watched it *then*.

Barry Margolin...
SCTV seems like the kind of silly comedy that Trey and Matt would have
loved when they were kids.

But as you say, it was 20 years ago. If they copied the bit, it could
easily have been subconscious -- they might not remember the specific
