GarondoMarondo...
Tonight's episode was on the US' F-86 Sabres and the Russian MiG-15s
during the Korean War, with recounts from ex pilots, old footage and
some really nice computer animations recreating the battles.

The ep repeats tonight at 2am, tomorrow afternoon and 4pm and Sunday at
10 for anyone with an interest in this subject.

Except they featured "Duke" as well. I lost interest the moment they
put him on the screen.

That was the two hour show last year. This is hour-long reenactments,
using flight-sims. Last night was Robbie Rhisner and Ralph Parr over
Korea. With any luck this could turn out as the tv version of Ed Sims'
greatest fighter missions books.

Gordon...
Here in SD, the History Channel showed them both, and have repeated the
new one several times in the last two days.

Garondo Marondo!

John Bailey...
Thanks for the tip. In 1957, I read an article by McConnell (named a
base after him) one the subject--winning the air combat war over
Korea. Two things stood out. McConnell seemed to be saying that at
max altitude (where he implied he preferred to fight) the trick was
simply to turn without stalling (due to the narrow Mach spread) Later
in the article he said (paraphrased) "We need tougher training. Pilots
should be subject to being jumped from the moment they take off until
they are taxiing off the runway. Of course, we would lose a few more
students that way--but they would be the weak ones."

Anyone remember that article? What magazine? (It was an in-house Air
Force magazine similar to the Flight Safety mag.)
