When I was younger (teens/20s), I used to want the absolute
best-picture possible. I wanted to see every pixel. Every freckle on
the actors' face. Every little window on the Enterprise as it flew by.
I wanted perfection.
But now as I've grown older, I find I care less-and-less about
reception.
I just don't care. I like to watch TV, but I also feel like I've "seen
it all". Courtroom dramas: Been there; done that.
Procedurals/detective shows: Been there; done that. I've become bored
with tv & feel I can live without it. RESULT: I now watch shows even
if there's ghosting, static, or blurry black-n-white (loss of the color
signal). As long as I can hear the sound, and understand the story,
I'm happy.

I'm 58 now and during most of my adult life I watched nothing larger than a
20" analog TV. At age 56 I bought a 32" Samsung LCD and installed an HD
antenna. It is like being born again. Now I can see.
I'm fortunate here in Indy--I can receive CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, FOX and CW in
HD when they offer HD programs using an attic antenna--channel master 4221.

As for analog reception, I guess I've been fortunate, because my home
is central to three major markets: Philly, Baltimore, and
Lancaster-York-Harrisburg DMAs. As a result, my rabbit ears receive
~25 channels from various locations... some crystal-clear, some
black-n-white but still watchable. And lots of independents that show
classic movies like Abbott & Costello or Bela Lugosi. So I've been
lucky with my antenna-only reception.
