Was there any humor in that, or just a laughtrack?
Justisaur...
|
You missed the joke about the LG Paladin?
Ophidian...
|
I like that one.
Too subtle for the average member of Colbert's audience to have gotten
though, I would think.
Justisaur...
|
Yeah, I was a bit suprised at the laugh that got. Must have been a
laugh track. He was going a bit fast for me to even get that as soon
as the laugh track kicked in. His timing needs work, at least in that

I didn't think those shows used canned laughter to augment the live
audience. Or are you making a funny?
Ophidian...
|
Have you listened to the bit?
The laughter doesn't sound spontaneous or random.

ooh, look who's suddenly got twenty bleedin ranks in Sense Motive.
Ophidian...
|
Hey, all those years of the family watching bad sitcoms had to pay off
somewhere.
|
|
It could be a live audience, but if so, I suspect they were seriously
coached on obeying the "Laughter" and "Applause" signs.
Daniel Damouth...
|
I've been in the audience of a late night show, and there were no
laughter or applause signs. However, there was, undeniably, pressure
to laugh, even when you didn't think it was all that funny. And they
try to get you in the mood by having another comedian "warm you up"
beforehand.

bit.
|
Ophidian...
|
No, I'm not saying they're dumb.
I'm saying this is a subject few of them know in detail...
|
|
And the bit about Magnificent Isolation?
Ophidian...
|
Another variation on an old, stale, and increasingly innaccurate cliche.
Although also another variation on a new, but already stale, and
increasingly accurate cliche.
Justisaur...
|
Y'know what most people would give for a bit of "Magnificent Isolation"
in the cube farm I live in? Sounds really good to me right now.
Of course I still prefer a live D&D game, and AFAIK D&D Online is one
of the worst MMORPGS I've tried.

He was rattling off Greyhawk place names and dropped reference to an old
Judge's Guild module... I get the idea that either he or one of the writers
is an old-school gamer.
Justisaur...
|
That explains it, I never got that much into Greyhawk. And I've never
touched anything by Judge's Guild.
Aaron F. Bourque...
|
Why? Does the Judge's Guild have cooties?
rgorman...
|
Well, their products always did look pretty cheaply made.
|
Justisaur...
|
No, just never looked at anything by them. Although being big enough
game geek/fans to actually publish 3rd party suppliments, they probably
do.

That stuff was new in my day. I stopped playing before that stuff came in.
(With possible exception of the Gold Box computer games.) The game itself
goes back to the 70s. I believe 84 was when Greyhawk was starting to come
in. Though it's common to find writers who were gamers.
