Hey! "Back in the USSR" is an excellent song! (Or maybe you're referring
to the generally paranoid tone of the song's protagonist? Come to think of
it, "Born in the USA has some fairly dark lyrics, if you listen carefully).

Which is only one of the reasons I wondered why Bob Dole's campaign for
president used the song without permission. I strongly suspect that
many who sing the chorus at 'patriotic' events don't know the actual
lyrics...

The show is becoming like Smallville, where only the last 3 minutes actually
move the story forward.
