It's a four-door Toyota Echo (now known as the Toyota Yaris)
hatchback. The two-door version is available in the United States,
but the four-door version is not. (The series is shot in Canada.)

I thought it was hilarious when I saw a Canada-only model featured in a show
set in (San Diego?) the US. Do you think they did that on purpose?

I think that they simply selected an available car that fit the
character's personality. Small four-door hatchbacks are commonly
regarded as practical, and the Echo/Yaris is extremely common in
Canada.

Had this been a paid placement by Toyota, perhaps a Scion xA (a
similar U.S. model) would have been imported. The larger (but still
reasonably small) Toyota Matrix also would have been a good choice,
and it's built in Canada.
