Doug Main...
Up until last night, the most often heard line in all of tv (drama and
comedy) was "What are you doing here?"

Daniel Damouth...
I'm amazed at how often people in dramas start sentences with
"Listen, ...". Hardly anyone does that in real life.

Also, people in dramas tend to use each other's names in conversation
in an extremely unnatural way. Dawson and Joey's conversations were
ridiculous.

"Joey, what are you doing here?"

"Listen, Dawson, we have to talk."

"About what?"

"About our relationship, Dawson."

"But, Joey, I thought we didn't have a relationship."

"Dawson, listen to me."

[etc.]

-Dan Damouth

Goro...
Bad to use DAWSON'S CREEK as an example as the dialogue was
intentionally stilted (b/c it's Kevin Williamson) as wasn't ever
intended to remotely reflect real-life conversations. It was just
supposed to be really "cool and hip"-speak. This torch has been passed
along to GILMORE GIRLS.

(btw, your point is still noted as it's very common in all other
dramas)

Jack Bauer has changed all that. The newest over-worked phrase is "Do
you understand?"

Still, that 24 is one great romp, isn't it?
