Wow. Rina Mimoun practically turned the Everwood series finale into
an audition tape for Gg. Word has had it that she was leaving the
show at the end of this season whether it was going to be cancelled or
not, so it just felt to me like she was aiming for at least a staff
writer/co-EP slot on Gg regardless . . ..
Includes/Discusses Spoilers for the Everwood finale, which has only
been on for a half hour on the west coast as I write this, but I just
finished watching the Denver feed.

It definitely had a more GG-ish "feel" than previous eps. I noticed it
most in Amy's talk with Stephanie, but there were other hints, too.
Funny thing is, I'm not much for this behind-the-scenes who's who BS
and did so not realize that it was someone from EW who was moving over
to GG to replace the Palladino team. The similarities I noticed last
night make sense now.
Either way, it was a bittersweet end to a show that I really liked and
I will miss it, for a while, anyway. That this would have been the end
of the season and I wouldn't have watched again until fall makes it
easier, since by the time it should be coming back I'll probably only
briefly remember what's missing from the schedule.
I haven't been watching anything on WB EXCEPT EW since everything had
gone into reruns already, so last night during the finale is the first
time I had seen the CW promos showing the lineup they will have. They
used a great shot of Lorelei in a blue dress for the GG segment, and
the "Smallville" montage showing Clark "flying" with Lana inside the
Fortress and catching the helicopter on the rooftop (from the ep where
Lois has to play a stripper) were good choices that exhibit the show's
potential, if not its reality most of the time.

SPOILER SPACE FOR EVERWOOD AHOY-ISH!!!!
Okay.

I didn't notice it, but the TWoP posters noticed that Delia had GG boxed
sets on her desk.

1) Hannah making the Pro/Con list for her college choices is so Rory
of her. Hannah's always been this way as a character, just less
Ian J. Ball...

When she's dating Logan, my preferred nickname for Rory is "doormat".
harderrj...
|
That's funny (and true).
My main thing about Logan calling Rory "Ace" is that he started calling
her that before they started their relationship (I think). It makes
light of Rory's journalism ambitions, and he delivers it in a very
condescending way. It's on the same level as "Champ" or "Slugger," to
me. The fact that he's still using that term even though he supposedly
cares about her says a great deal about his character and their
relationship.
Keith Baird...
|
You're missing the point altogether. Logan's sarcasm about journalism
is a reflection of his relationship with Mitchum, not his relationship
with Rory. It's not really directed at her.
harderrj...
|
Well, that's even worse, then, if Logan is taking out his frustrations
with his father on Rory.
Keith Baird...
|
Again: Logan is not taking out his frustrations on Rory. Yes, he's
acting out. No, Rory is not the object of his acting out; she just
happens to be in the room at the time.
|
Look, I'm not saying that I'm totally right and everyone else is
wrong-- it's just my impression from watching the show.
Keith Baird...

Perhaps you've been operantly conditioned by watching too much Lifetime
Movie Network? There can be something wrong about the boyfriend without
the girl being his victim.
Ian J. Ball...

I watch more than enough LMN to know that this can't be true! ;p

Ian J. Ball...
|
Oh no, it's true. I watch it a fair amount on long boring summer days!
Ian (Recently, they just showed a TV movie, originally called "Secret
Cutting", that I hadn't seen in ages. Bless LMN! Bless them!! :D )

By the way, what's the definition of "shipper" and how did that phrase
come to be? I get the impression that it's some who wants to see two
characters get together, but I've only seen it used to describe
Luke/Lorelai fans and not Rory/Logan fans.
Rob Jensen...
|
'Shippers are OBSESSIVES of any given couple. Anyone can be a fan of
a given 'ship and still not be a 'shipper. I don't know when it
started or who started using it, but IMO, the term really first
starting coming into wide usage with the Mulder-Scully 'ship on
X-Files and the rise of the Mulder Estrogen Brigaders.
Ian J. Ball...
|
I'm pretty sure the term pre-dates that. It may have originated in the
rec.arts.tv.soaps.* groups, or possibly it was a term developed by early
fanfic reviewers. But I'm pretty sure it pre-dates TXF.
|
You're a 'shipper when the 'ship has become more important to you than
anything else on the show, especially when the given 'ship is *far*
from the central storyline of the series, as in the cases of X-Files,
CSI and Gilmore Girls.

Perhaps that means Logan's "unworthy" of Rory because he has too many
issues with his father to work through, but I don't think so. After
all, exactly the same could be said of Lorelai's "worthiness."
|
Just my opinion, but whenever Logan calls her "Ace" I wonder, why does
she put up with that?
Barnabas Collins...
|
Because the writers say to tolerate it?

When he first called her that (and it was before they had a relationship) it
took it as kidding, not condescending.
Now it seems to be just an affectionate nickname.

There have been suggestions in the show and on message broads that Logan and
Christopher have a lot in common. This was made clearest in the episode
when Chris and Logan meet (when Rory moves in with Logan).
Chris is not apt to change much at his age, but Logan seems to be trying to
change - to be a better person for Rory or what have you. I think Logan
has improved, but there is still plenty of room for more.
I do think Logan has more potential than Chris or Luke.

invoked on the Ewood set *numerous* times, especially back when Hannah
first joined the show.
2) Amy buying the Ferris Wheel for the night and plonking it down in
front of Ephram's apartment: very Lorelai-level funny in the grand
romantic gesture, and not just because she was the one making the
grand romantic gesture, but because her gesture was particularly
whimsical in that Lorelai sort of way.
3) And on that theme, Amy was being Lorelai-jabbery all night
tmcd...
|
Hannah has been jabbery, and Ephram, and doubtless others that I'm not
remembering.
|
4) Ephram and that *terrible* jacket that his temporary flame,
Stephanie bought for him. She was soooo totally dressing him down in
a misguided effort to try to make him look less attractive to Amy.
Sort of reminded me of Lor buying clothes for Luke in s1, except,
well, Lor was on the winning side and Steph, of course, on the losing
side.
5) The way that the four major storylines were layered and bouncing
off each other in parallel and counterpoint (sometimes even at the
same time) -- Amy/Ephram, Andy/Nina, Hannah/Bright, Harold, Rose & the

But Everwood was like that too -- there was The Big Theme and all the
storylines of the episode were reflecting it in some way.
Rob Jensen...

Umm, duh. Gg has been doing it for two years longer than Everwood
has, it's just that IMO, Mimoun was doing this in a manner far more
appropriate to Gg than she's ever done on Ewood before.

Some shippers are obsessed by the couple they ship and want it be the center
of the show, whether that is what the show is really about or not.
However, I don't think shippers are by definition obsessed to the extent of
making that the main element of the show where that is not the shows intent.
And no I do not ship any couples on any show.

Baby. IMO, Gg will be juuuuuuuuuuuuuuust as intricately, densely
structured/plotted as it has been throughout Amy & Dan's run. Makes
me wonder if Amy & Dan might have already made an offer to her before
they left or if David started sending out feelers in March/April or
earlier, weeks (if not longer) before Amy & Dan officially left the
show.
6) My only concern about Mimoun joining the show I can only express
for the time being in music terms: Everwood has always been legato
and Gg has always been staccato, both in terms of the feel of the
dialogue (not just the word choice, but the feel of the way people
react to each other as they speak) and in the general tone of the show
