in the last episode of Heroes, Hiro makes an interesting allusion.
After seeing the painting where he fights a dinosaur, he says

What if I step on a bug?
I could change history...

DWACON...
Wouldn't it be interesting if John DeLancie appeared as "Q" to guide Hiro...

xeaglecrest...
"ER" even made a reference to "A Sound of Thunder" on a recent show.

David Barnett...
So he does think he can change the past.

That comment refers to Bradbury's short story "A sound of thunder" where
a time traveler goes to the time of dinosaurs (including T-Rex) and
inadvertently steps on a butterfly. When he returns to the present
history has changed in many ways.

David Barnett...
And there is the movie "The Butterfly Effect".

mrbetelman...
The short story was great...the movie not so much, which unfortunately, is
true of too many screen adaptations, IMHO

NoBody...
The story is a SciFi classic. The movie is "There was a MOVIE?"

John Duncan Yoyo...
Last year. They snuck it out and barely advertised it. Bad signs all
around. I've been waiting for it to show up in the cheap bin at
Walmart.

MarkRRose...
That's because, besides the fact that they both used time travellers
hunting dinosaurs, the movie really had nothing to do with the short story.

Jim Langston...
Actually, the begining of the movie is very close to the book, although with
different characters. They even had the path. The whole premise was the
same. Okay, after they got back to the present, it was nothing like a the
book at all (time ripples? Give me a freaking break). Still, I enjoyed
watching it once I realized that after they got back to the present it was
no longer sci-fi but fantasy.

Angel...
how is that a spoiler ?

Paul O'Neill...
It completely removes the question of what Isaac is going to paint. Ruins
the suspense for someone who has yet to see the episode.

Michael O'Connor...
There was a horrible feature film version of A Sound of Thunder which
is currently playing on cable. This movie was so low-budget Roger
Corman would have passed on it; it had the WORST CGI I've ever seen.

Anim8rFSK...
It was done by a company trying to sell their CGI software; bizarrely
they thought this demo would inspire people to buy their wares.

TH...
the odd thing was the talent involved, they had big name stars in a
movie that went straight to DVD. Ben Kinglsey! It was awful. The worst
scene of all was the two actors "walking in place" pretending to be
walking as the futurist scenery went by. It was embarrassingly bad.

The story was ridiculous too (the ripples changing time - altering
Bradbury's story). On the plus side, the Tiger-like creatures were

The story also had a bit of wry political commentary that they completely
ignored.

I liked the plants growing all over and through everything.

pretty cool.

Interesting story, I would love to have seen what Speilberg had done
with it.
