'Stars' Align for ABC on Competitive Tuesday
'L&O' duo solid for NBC, 'Smith' scuffles

Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006

Tuesday night featured a slew of premieres and a tightly contested
ratings race, with ABC coming out on top thanks to "Dancing with the
Stars."

ABC averaged a 10.6 rating/17 share for the night to score a solid
overall victory. NBC, 8.0/12, came in second, with CBS not far behind
at 7.7/12. FOX, 6.6/10, finished fourth. The CW was a distant fifth at
1.0/2.

The battle in the adults 18-49 demographic was much closer, with ABC's
4.6 rating edging FOX's 4.5 for the top spot. NBC took third with a
4.1, while CBS drew a 3.4 in the demographic favored by advertisers.
The CW managed only a 0.6.

The first hour of "Dancing with the Stars" put ABC on top at 8 p.m.
with a 10.7/17. The season premiere of "NCIS" delivered an 8.3/13 for
CBS to beat FOX's "House," 8.1/13. "Deal or No Deal" was fourth for
NBC. A "Gilmore Girls" rerun on The CW posted a 1.3/2.

"Dancing" improved to 13.5/21 in its second hour, leaving the field
behind. "The Unit's" season premiere averaged 7.6/12 for CBS, tying
for second with NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." FOX's "Standoff"
fell off markedly from its lead-in to finish at 5.1/8. The CW aired a
"Launch Party" special.

NBC took the lead at 10 p.m. with the season premiere of "Law & Order:
SVU," 9.5/16. "Boston Legal" began its third season with a 7.7/12 on
ABC, leaving CBS' new drama "Smith" in third with a 7.2/12.
