Milhouse Van Houten...
Friday, Discovery 8-11PM
EW: This visually arresting, controversial documentary, which chronicles
author and outdoorsman Timothy Treadwell's 13-year obsession with grizzly
bears, makes its broadcast debut. Writer/director Werner Herzog's film was
taken from over 1,000 hours of footage Treadwell shot during his years spent
in the wilderness. A 30-minute retrospective, Diary of the Grizzly Man,
follows the premiere [at 10:30PM].

Major ChrisB...
just read a story saying that Joaquim Phoneix apparently told people that it
was Werner Herzog who pulled him out of the car after his accident the other
day....

Ebert called it the best doc of the year. His review:

Ronnie...
Thanks for the heads up!

Stan Brown...
It might have been, in theaters. But the way the Discovery Channel
chopped it up, it was almost incoherent.

Not only were the expected numerous and lengthy commercial breaks,
but they showed shortcuts from already-shown segments when returning
from commercial. And there never were any end credits, so who knows
where the actual film stopped and the post-film interviews began?

I know we can't expect an optimum viewing experience on a commercial
network, but DSC made this a lot worse than it needed to be.
