"MTV doesn't play music."

It's a joke so old it's "20th". But what do "the kids" tune to for music?
who is their arbiter, guide, introducer to new and "good" music?

MTV 2? MTV Europe? (Are those two the same?) MTV Jams? MTV Hits? (How does

MTV 2 now has about as much music content as MTV did c. 1996. Which
is to say just north of nil. Which is I suppose why they created MTV
Hits, which has probably two years before they start showing
non-music programming.

Personally I find there's a lot of good stuff on MTV en Espanol,
though you have to tune in at random to find it, because they don't
have regularly scheduled blocks of Rock, or Rap, or Pop but just
throw everything together.

Digital cable (and I presume satellite systems) offer non-video
music channels like Much Music -- there are about fifty such
channels on my system, subdivided into enough genres that you can
find something that caters specifically to your taste. Personally I
flip between Alternative, Adult Alternative, and Retro-Active (new
wave, punk, pre-grunge alterna-rock).

DirecTV has XM Satellite radio as its music choices.

it become a "hit" before airing there?) VH1 Soul? VH1 Country? Fuse? or have
they abandoned tv altogether and gone totally online? or gone back to ...
gasp ... radio?
