What's Wrong with ABC Again?

I know it's summer, but this is ridiculous. Isn't ABC
supposed to be on some kind of a semi-winning
streak these days? And a streak that should hold in
summer ratings terms as well? Not according to the
latest final numbers for the week of June 26-July 2.

ABC 2.9 / CBS 4.9 / NBC 3.9 / FOX 3.9 /

November 14-20, 2005 Week Averages
ABC 7.4 / CBS 9.9 / NBC 6.4 / FOX 4.3 /
UPN 2.7 / WB 2.5

June 27-July 3, 2005 Week Averages:
ABC 4.0 / CBS 4.9 / NBC 4.2 / FOX 2.9 /
UPN 2.2 / WB 2.1

November 1-7, 2004 Week Averages:
ABC 7.1 / CBS 8.5 / NBC 7.4 / FOX 4.1 /
UPN 2.7 / WB 2.4

While the June-July weeks cover the same period in
each year, the November sweeps weeks chosen
reflect ABC's best week average during those periods.
So what we see is that while ABC was off 35% in
June-July 2005 compared to November sweeps 2004,
it was off a whopping 70% in June-July 2006 compared
to November sweeps 2005, or double now than that of
last summer. That's astonishing and doesn't exactly
bode well for a decent fall start for the network if this
continues throughout the summer. Right now ABC is
doing about as well as UPN did in each of the
November sweeps weeks. Are ABC execs already
falling asleep at the wheel again, even if it is only the
the start of summer?
