lonelysummer...
Just had a passing thought: did anyone ever walk into a store and grab
one of the 2 albums with very similar covers (John Lennon/Plastic Ono
Band, Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band), take it home and find out they had the
wrong one? I can imagine the reaction when the needle dropped on the
record and out came "i-yi-yi-yi-yi-yi-yi"!

Jimbace...
I didn't but I recall others I knew doing so. And not being happy.

DC...
Well, they were in different bins, or some stores probably didn't stock
YO's album.

rwalker...
Yes. It happened to my college roomate in full auditory range of all
three of us sharing an apartment.

Will Dockery...
No, but Speaking of Apples, my daughter gave me a copy of Magical
Mystery Tours *My Life With The Beatles* by Tony Bramwell and Rosemary
Kingsland for X-mas (BTW, she's due to present the world with the first
Dockery
*grand-daughter* in the near future... bust out the cigars) and it
turns out to be some mighty fine reading on the Apple years.

This guy Bramwell seems to have a good memory (or at least an
entertaining memory) of things Apple (still my all time favorite record

label, including my upcoming Pluto Records... stay tuned):

*The first Apple single was a one-copy recording by Frank Sinatra, "The

Lady Is A Tramp"... recorded for Maureen Harrison's birthday!

Will Dockery...
Oooops, make that Ringo's wife!

Pretty cool stuff... but does anyone know if this is actually true?

Marc...
Frank recorded this parody in May 1973 with only piano accompaniment for
the birthday and marriage of Maureen Starr. The only problem is that
it's said to be written for Maureen's 22nd birthday and for their
wedding. But they wed on 02-11-65 and her 22nd birthday was on 08-04-68
as far as I know. Maybe they renewed their vowes in 1973? But why the
22nd birthday thing?! I think I read once that there was a anniversary
party for Maureen in 1973 and everybody was ask to send in special
records?! I'm no die-hard on the Beatles, maybe somebody else knows
answers to these questions.

The Sinatra parody is fun, indeed! He has some voice problems but he
makes it a quite charming rendition. Special lyrics for the songs "The
Lady Is A Tramp" and "But Beautiful" were written by Sammy Cahn

Here are the lyrics:

Marc...
I've read this Apple #1 story elsewhere on the internet, I don't know
whether it is true or not, may it's just another urban myth. Apple #2
was "Those Were The Days" by Mary Hopkin.
