I for one was extremely excited when I heard about this project. It was
one of those ideas where I thought, why has no one thought of this
before? The "mashing" up the songs sounded like it would be fantastic
if done well. On the 5 or so songs that this is actually done on
"Love", it is fantastic. The rest is just another repackaging of the
"hits". I can't believe people are all upset over the mashing up since
it is only done in small amounts on this disc. In most cases, it's only
the intro or outro that gets changed up anyway and then it's just the
regular song.
What a wasted opportunity!

Very simple:
You cannot be listening to the same recordings I am.

I completely agree with "imsjry."

My opinion, but it's time to walk away from the thought that the original
mono mixes were best, or that the Capitol mixes are best, and to go back and
remix and remaster from the original tapes and bring the entire catalog up
to date. You only need to hear how clear the 5.1 mixes sound to realize
what we have been missing. And we can always go back to the original mxies.

Seen on Ebay and Bootlegzone: the dr.Ebbetts original mono-mix of "Love"!

Have you actually listened to the disc, or are you just reacting to
what you've read? What about the 5.1 mixes on the DVD? Have your

No I don't have a surround system. Is is THAT different that I couldn't
hear all the parts on two speakers? Is your point that these "sound"
better than the available CD's? Then yes, I agree with you. So the 26
songs are remastered, great....

Not just "remastered", but "remixed" from scratch using the
first-generation master source tapes for the first time ever ... a very
different process. Yes, 5.1 stereo is THAT different, and Yes, the
overall "sound" is WAY better than the available CD's. For those of us
who have been awaiting the day when the entire Beatles catalogue is
remixed this way, the LOVE soundtrack is a small taste of what we've
been hoping for for years! Personally, I thought the "mashups" I've
heard so far are creative, fun and gimicky -- not unlistenable, but
also not a replacement for updated mixes of the original songs.

heard them? I don't know how anyone could listen to any of the new
mixes done in 5.1 taken directly from the master tapes and call it just
"another repackaging of hits"!!!??? Unless there are a bunch of
undiscovered, previously un-released Beatles recordings hidden away in
some vault somewhere, ANY new release could be called a "repackaging of
hits" by a cynic. At least this time around, we're hearing those old
recordings in a new format like they've never been presented before.
Seems to me, it's well worth the price of admission. If you really
think that these new mixes sound just like the old ones -- you should
consider getting a new stereo system ... or a new set of ears!

The mixes aren't what's bad. What bad, is that the entire Beatles
catolog should have
just been fixed..and it wasn't done. It's like paying for the same
songs over and over again,
and for what? I'm not sorry that I bought this CD though. It's kind
of interesting.

That takes time to do it right. I think this is their trial balloon to
see how well this goes over with not just audiophiles but with the
general public. Nevertheless, it's the first glimpse into the sound
quality of future remixes, so for now it is great. Yeah, once the
catalog is released then it will be just a forgotten sampler disk, not
that that is a real revelation.

I bought the CD. It's ok. I don't love it..nor do I dislike it. The
original music should just be
remixed/mastered...or whatever it needs..and then no need for this. The
Beatles sales figures
must be slipping somewhat..or this would have never been released.

What are you talking about ??
You maka no sense !

Umm, ok...
I think the mashup thing is overhyped. There is very little of that
going on on this disc, save for maybe 6 or 7 songs. It is mostly just
the "normal" songs with maybe the intro or outro changed up.

"Learn to listen, listen to learn." - The Ramones
I'm listening through it it for the first time right now and track 23 (A
Day In The Life) is on. I've enjoyed every track so far. George Martin
and his son Giles have really done a great job. This is the ultimate
remix record of 60s music.
However, these remixes seem to emphasize George Martin's orchestral
arrangements in the songs where those arrangements were originally
present. Somehow, Giles has managed to prevent his dad from overdoing
it. Someone not originally involved with the Beatles would have come out
with totally different kind of remixes.
Just another repackaging of the "hits"? Definately not. I've listened to
these songs only for the last 30 years and even I can hear things that
I've never heard before.
The whole Beatles catalogue should be newly mixed in the same way as on
"Yellow Submarine Songtrack". However, there is danger that producing
new mixes will equal rewriting history and therefore these new mixes
would give future generations a wrong comprehension about what the
Beatles originally was. So, first the digitally enhanced

Interesting comments on the whole album. I disagree about the
"re-writing history" issue. New mixes of the original songs (not
mash-ups) would not undo "what the Beatles originally were" ... but
rather would allow future generations to actually hear what they
created in the studio -- something that even us old relics from the
1960's didn't get to fully hear the first time around on vinyl or the
second time around on CD. Seven years worth of amazing Abbey Road
studio performances were captured on multitrack tapes that can now be
peeled back and re-assembled to finally reveal things to us all that
only the performers heard back then. THAT is the history we should all
be able to enjoy!

official/authentic mono mixes that were used on original LPs and then
remixed/resynched stereo mixes. Or both versions on a same disc, that
would be the ideal solution.
Now that "Love" is playing for the second time around and I'm listening
to John's voice, its presence seems to be more powerful than ever before.
It's also great that "Love" is not dominated by "John songs" or "Paul
songs". The input of each beatle is presented as equally as possible.
