Several sources (May Pang, Jack Douglas) have claimed that, at certain
points after the break up, John expressed a desire to write with Paul

They didn't see each other for six years. I don't know of any reports that
either of them made any serious efforts to resume a friendship during that
time (and before anyone says "well, Yoko would have stopped them," remember
that George had previously played on one of Yoko's albums and that John saw
Ringo during his last years). Whether George wanted to admit it to himself
or not, and it's normal when one person dies for the people around him to
minimze the rifts between them and that person "we would have patched things
up if we'd had the chance", they were estranged.

That's true; plus, John admitted being self-absorbed and claimed not to
need ANY friends.

As long as he and Yoko gazed on Waterloo Sunset, they were in paradise.

again. Has Yoko ever confirmed, denied or commented on this?
I'm not talking about John wanting to (or not wanting to) reunite The
Beatles. I'm just curious about John expressing a desire to write with
Paul again -- in whatever capacity -- and what Yoko had to say about
it.

I am not personally aware if Yoko confirmed this point or even knew.
We must remember, John did not necessarily tell Yoko EVERYTHING. In
other words, I believe he did consider writing with Paul again, but
John may have NOT told Yoko because she probably would have objected.
IMHO, by the end of his life, John wanted very much to make Yoko a star
in her own right to make her happy. Then when she was settled in her
career, John was thinking of "working with the boys." (that is what
Douglas said)
IMHO Yoko wanted to keep John "all to herself." She did not want John
returning to the Beatles or working with anyone other than her. Hence
John was quite isolated during the last few years of his life.
