Yes. I think he's even used the original song's strings and harp
track(s) for an near-karaoke performance in concert.

Yes, I saw him do it live in 2002 I think it was.
I always liked this song because it described my parents and my life
at the time, and I left home similarly, surreptitiously, leaving a
note for my parents. I later made amends with them, but at the time it
seemed the only choice I had.

No he didn't, it was performed live on keyboards and guitar. One of
the highlights of the '02 shows I thought, a definite treat.

But -listen- to the harp and strings. I heard it on a broadcast, and it
sounded identical to the original album (harp and strings-wise, from
what I recall.) Not just notes, but timbre, inflection, etc. That said
to me a "lift" from the original). If this is the case, playing,
singing, and miming keys live alongside it is no biggie...
I'm thinking I saw it on one of the Russian concerts.
