Three pop bands which had better melodies than Beatles

Three bands come into mind - ABBA, Beach Boys and Bee Gees. Beach Boys
are the weak link there. But ABBA and Bee Gees definitely have much
more hummable songs. And they have sold millions of records too.

Okay?

Seriously, the answer is:
None
None
and
None!

Abba suck. Bee Gees suck.

BlackMonk...
Abba was a bubblegum band, an amusing diversion who are overmatched by the
other three bands here. The Bee Gees were talented, but they had the bad
timing to make commercial music at a time when commercial music wasn't taken
as seriously as it was in the sixties. They were good writers, though.

The Beach Boys are great, but not better than the Beatles.

BlackMonk...
Once you're talking about music at that level, who here is qualified to make
that distinction? I'd take American Spring's version of "Thinking About You,
Baby" (A Brian Wilson/Mike Love song. Brian co-produced, did the vocal
arrangement, and sang backing vocals) over just about anything any of The
Beatles did in the 70s, except maybe "Mother."

Angielexis...
There are a lot of groups with good melodies, but they aren't the
Beatles. I'd choose the Mamas and Pappas over the BeeGees and Abba.

zepfloyes...
The Association are supposed to be very good with their melodies. I
heard two of their songs. Quite impressive. But I have those are their
only two good songs.

giorn123...
The Association had a number of nice tunes. The Carpenters hammered

Sean Carroll...
Cherish, Windy, and Along Comes Mary are all among my all-time favourites.

out a few good ones also.

fishandchipps...
Three Dog Night, Five Satins, Fine Young Cannibals, Jay and The
Americans, The Four Season's, on and on and on.................but only
one Beatles "Toppermost of the Poppermost"

Manco...
Queen had some really great melodies, not exactly the simple hummable type,
but more complex in a way true Beatles fans would appreciate. Several songs
to point out:

Killer Queen
Seven Seas of Rhye
Father To Son
Bohemian Rhapsody
Somebody To Love
We are the Champions
Don't Stop Me Now
Play the Game
Save Me
Who Wants to Live Forever
The Show Must Go On

Yet whose catalogs are more valuable/covered?

Right there it destroys your entire 'argument'. The Beatle melodies are
famous for being so good. ABBA? Pft. Beach Boys? Yes, but not to the
same degree or amount. Bee Gees? Puh-leaze.

ABBA have apparently sold 300 million records worldwide. Only Beatles
and Led Zeppelin have sold more. If not for their melodies, how would
they have sold that much?

Bee Gees have sold 120 million records. Their website says that.

The Beach Boys have also sold 100 million records.
"The Beach Boys have sold over 100 million records worldwide and have
received 32 RIAA Platinum and Gold record awards. The Beach Boys have
performed more concerts than any major rock band in history. On July 4,
1985 , The Beach Boys played to an afternoon crowd of one million in
Philadelphia and the same evening they performed for over 750,000
people on the Mall in Washington . The day's historical achievement
was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. The band was
honored at the 2001 Grammy Awards, receiving The Lifetime Achievement
Award from the Recording Academy."

Of course sales hardly prove anything. But these three bands were not
RAWK bands or experimental/art rock bands by any means. The only thing
that appeals in their music is the simple hummable melodies. So shall
we conclude that these bands have better melodies than The Beatles?

Jeff...
What do you mean that sales figures do not mean anything? Of course
they do. They mean that the Beatles are the most popular. The Beach
boys have sold over a million records
worldwide..according to your figures. The Beatles have sold over a
billion recordings world
wide. What does that tell you? The Beatles figures I am speaking
of..were in the guiness
book of world records in 1984, so they have had to surpass that by
now..and so have the Beach. BTW, IF you want to complain about sales
figures, you are the one who mentioned
the guiness book of world records first..not me.
boys, but who do you think has sold the most recordings by now? It
isn't the Beach boys.
