Plato's Apology Relived...
UNSEEN LENNON SNAPS THAT COULD SAVE MY GIRL
BOATMAN FRIEND TO SELL SECRET PICS
By Pete Samson
A BOATMAN who had a secret friendship with John Lennon is selling his
treasured photos of their time together to help his sick daughter.

Peter Sandeman has never talked about his days out with the Beatle, his
then wife Cynthia and their son Julian.

But after 41 years, the 68-year-old is hoping his pictures will fund
stem cell therapy for his daughter Julia, 33, who has multiple
sclerosis. He said: "It was a private thing. But now the need is
greater."

John bought a house in Poole, Dorset for his beloved aunt Mimi, who
raised him, and would visit to escape the limelight.

Mimi worried John could not escape his fans. Peter's landlady told Mimi
John, who was writing Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, should go
out on Peter's boat.

Peter was not keen on The Beatles. He said yesterday: "John not really
my kind of bloke. But he really charmed us."

They cruised around Poole, ate picnics and relaxed in the summer of
1965. Peter is convinced the trips inspired Lucy in the Sky with
Diamonds which begins, Picture yourself in a boat on a river.

Peter said: "You can see how happy he is in the pictures. I was glad to
be able to do that for him."

Sounds like a very nice story and memory, BUT, I'm not sure that just,
what?, selling pictures of John with this fellow on his boat, will
raise enough money for his daughter's medical expenses? It's not like
it's a set of handwritten lyrics or something like that.
Maybe I'm not quite getting the story.

He said it was to help fund stem cell therapy. My doctor seems to feel
that Multiple Sclerosis is undiagnosed or undertreated Lyme Disease.
The symptoms can be identical, and there are no tests which can prove
that MS is not Lyme. I don't think it's a coincidence that I know of 4
people who have MS who also had/have Lyme Disease.

Actually, Lyme is much further along the Dorset coast from Poole.
Which isn't to say there's no connection :)

On the outside chance that you're not joking,
it's named after a town in Connecticut, USA
