ecarecar...
How were electric guitars recorded in the time of the Beatles and how
are they recorded now?

Hellvis...
The same way. ;-)

terra...
A hundred bucks is too much for a casual question (so is the $60 they will
charge for the paperback next year) but for someone whose depth of questions
about this group's recording methods is endless....

Lookingglass...
I believe the $100 is for the autographed copy only...though I am not
positive about this fact.

terra...
"so is the $60 they will

terra...
The 100 book comes out first, it is autographed but also comes with many
bonus items, none of which are necessary for the enjoyment of the book, but
nice. The main thing is the delay in getting to read it. I doubt their
autographs will ever be worth anything,.

dave (...it took me years to write...would you take a look...)

I assume that then the guitar was amplified and then recorded by a
microphone.
I would assume that, now, the signal is directly recorded without the
use of a microphone.

Hellvis...
Each method gives a different effect; it depends on what sound you're
going for. Both are in use today.

Leon Trollski...
The latter method is called "direct injection", one of the first (or the
first) use by Beatles was John's guitar on "Revolution" (single).

But mic placement in front of the amp is still common, I don't now if more
or less than before.

A Couple of Questions about "Devil in Her Heart."

Just before "She's got the devil in her heart" is, I think, an
eighth on the snare (or tom) followed by 3 eighths on the bass.
I haven't heard that before or since. I like it. Has it been
used elsewhere?

At the end, somebody on guitar comes in early. Why wasn't that taken
out or re-recorded? How many channels were they using then?

Some Other Guy...
They recorded the music as a band and they did not have the luxury if endless takes. They chose the
best take of the bunch. And since each instrument was not on it's own track, they entire band would
have to perform it again to make it perfect. They had 4 tracks back then.

Leon Trollski...
They were using four channels I think, and this was up from a two channel
desk used on the first album.

It is Lennon and Harrison singing "She's got the devil in her heart," and
McCartney singing, "She's an angel to me," isn't it? He should have gone
back, from time to time, and listened to some of his old stuff.

Some Other Guy...
George is singing lead. There are 3 distinct background vocals too so George is in there too.

Leon Trollski...
That's George on the lead vocal.
