There can only ever be one band called "The Beatles".
However, a number of other names have been used more than once. An
obvious one I know of is the Detroit Spinners who are just the Spinners
in the USA but had to add the prefix in the UK because of another band
called the Spinners.
I also know that Liam & Noel are not the first to use the name Oasis.
Anybody know of any other duplicates? Any of these lead to squabbles

I hate that I know this, but I once heard a local DJ interviewing some
members of the band Creed. The DJ asked the band if they were aware of
another Creed that was out in the mid-70's. He played one of the old
Creed's songs. It sucked just like the newer Creed.

You said above..that "I hate that I know this."
Why do you hate that you know this?

Cuz Creed is such a cheesy band. I hate knowing anything about them.

Every song sounds the same...and it's noise to my ears. They're boring.

My point exactly. A terrible band. I hate to admit that I saw them
once at a festival here in Atlanta. They weren't awful live. All
their songs are in drop-D tuning which is why they all sound the same.

There was another band in the 60's...either called "Eagles" or "The
Eagles."

The most famous one I can think of is THE BYRDS.........in the UK I believe

Two of the original members of Spinal Tap called their first band "The
Originals". They then found out there already was another band called "The
Originals", so they changed to "The New Originals". "The Originals" then
changed their name, so "The New Originals" considered going back to "The
Originals". Instead they changed to "The Thamesmen", and eventually,
"Spinal Tap".
