What's the deal with George Harrison and Platinum Weird?

I think the duet of "This Guitar" he did with them is fantastic:

I get the feeling this isn't what is seems (or maybe I'm the last person
on earth who doesn't get the joke). The site is full of
1974-references, while the photo's and sounds are very much 21st
century-stuff...

I have the same feeling... The songs don't sound quite like the music
of 73, sound more like someone NOW trying to sound "retro".

However, the interviews with Jagger, Ringo, etc. make it sound like
they were truly a band back then... and how do you explain the duet
with George? which, by the way, is way better than his own version on
"Extra Texture".
