I think that if Brian Epstein had gotten over the matter of losing control
of the Beatles and while it might have possibly taken him several years to
finally accept that fact, he could possibly have become one of the great
presenter/manager's of Broadway musical shows.
When you think about his background, i.e. his interest in theatre to begin
with and his vast experience from arranging concerts across the USA and
around the world, I think he could easily have succeeded in this area if he
chosen to follow that path.
It's too bad Brian felt like he was slowly being pushed out of the spotlight
with the Beatles because there really could have been other avenues for him
to pursue.

You might think this is strange John, but I've always meant to tell you
this, and I mean no disrespect: Everytime I see you post, this picture
of Brian Keith of the TV show "Family
Affair" comes to mind. I supppose it's because
you're both low key.

Is it true that Brian was being forced out of the picture? It's hard for me
to believe that the man who fought as hard as he did for the Beatles and
their concerns would be so easily betrayed by them... I had always assumed
he had their full and unquestioning trust.

At the end, no. According to Tony Barrow in his new book, he was getting
interview requests from well known magazine and newspaper publishers while
the band began work on Sgt. Pepper. And as he always did in the past, Barrow
said he went to Brian Epstein for him to put in a request through the band
to arrange a time to be interviewed with the media. Brian now kept putting
off Barrow with the requests until finally one day Brian broke down and
admitted to Barrow that he was losing control over the Beatles and that gone
were the days when he could go in during a break in the recording sessions
and tell the band they had to be interviewed on such and such a date.
Barrow speculates that had Brian lived, that he would likely have been
managing Director for the Beatles' Apple organization, but more like a
puppet figure being driven by the bands wishes and not his. Personally, I
don't think Brian Epstein would have tolerated being in that situation for
very long. I think it more likely that had he lived, he would continued to
look after his musical acts, console himself over several years accepting
the fact that he was not really managing the Beatles anymore as touring pop
act. It would be hard for him to escape all responsibility "Beatles
related" because if you look at the Beatles legacy over the past 40 years,
there would likely have been business deals for him to be involved with --
something that Neil Aspinall has been doing on behalf of the Fabs.
And, as I mentioned in my previous post, Brian's acumen alone would have
carried him into the realm of managing "Broadway musicals" if he desired to
do so and I think he might have done well in that field.
