Copy and Paste into browser.....the good old days

Sixties Gen...
An old high school buddy sent me this a long time ago to view.

He was outraged by the bigoted anti-Black nature of some of the songs
and photos.

He wrote his objections to the owner of the website, and received a
reply that would make a sailor on shore leave blush.

fishandchipps...
just thought it would bring back some memories........good or
bad......as far as being right- wing, my car doesn't steer anyway but
left

Sixties Gen...
At first I thought it was kind of neat, but then as I watched and
listened, I realized some of the messages behind it were bigoted.

fishandchipps...
Saw "Gone with the Wind" the other evening.......same thing there. I
don't condone it, but it is there. Our military wasn't even "mixed"
until WW2, I believe.

TAR...
What was bigoted? All I could find was where it said that people in the
sixties didn't want to be known as hyphenated Americans, but that could
also apply to many nationalities of origin. Motown music was played,
and famous black Americans were represented. Am I missing something?

The only thing that irked me was that they showed "I Love Lucy" as a TV
show in the '60s, when I believe its last episode was in 1957.

fishandchipps...
All in the eyes and ears of the beholder, TAR. I just wanted to share
some memories of the past. The only thing that has changed is where the
bigotry is pointed...........everywhere

I Love Lucy did end in 57, good call. So obviously you're aware that
other named Lucy shows ran all thru the 60's, like the one's with Desi Jr
and Lucy...

Sean Carroll...
I saw Lucy in the colour 'The Lucy Show' before I ever saw 'I Love
Lucy'. I'm no expert, but TLS probably was almost as influential as ILL
in creating the public's image of her. And who could forget Mr Mooney?

poisoned rose...
I wouldn't say that's true. I'd compare it to the difference between
"Twilight Zone Rod Serling" and "Night Gallery Rod Serling."

I've barely even seen The Lucy Show, myself. I couldn't tell you the
plot of a single episode.

Ahh, my misspent youth of late-night Nick At Nite marathons. Those were
the days.

TAR...
Yeah, but they specifically showed "I Love Lucy."

:) Your statement made me think of that Seinfeld episode with that
weird guy on the train who was talking to Elaine, saying, "I Love Lucy,
The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy..."

Sixties Gen...
Technically speaking, the show known as "I Love Lucy" ended in 1957,
but the same characters, the Ricardos, Mertzes, and Little Ricky
continued to appear in the one hour long "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" from
1957-1960. So, on a different technicality, the series did not end
until 1960. However, since a year ending in zero is actually the last
year of a decade, and the Sixties, again technically speaking, didn't
start until 1961...we're all correct.

I love when a plan comes together. ;-)

Sixties Gen...
I only viewed it once, and really don't feel like viewing it again, but
in addition to the racial undertone at times, there were also comments

TAR...
I didn't see any.

as you mentioned that imply that progressive changes made since the
Sixties were merely attempts to be "politically correct", and not
honest attempts to improve lives.

TAR...
It was just another viewpoint, and that's the way I took it. They
mention that many people at that time wanted to be part of the melting
pot.

Having said this, we're probably making this one website more important
than it actually is.

TAR...
I suppose, but your take on it was interesting and prompted me to take a
second look.
