Chris Jepson...
OK, here's something I never heard before... in the Rolling Stone
Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll, in the Carl Perkins entry, it says that
Perkins became friendly with the Fab Four and attended sessions at which
they recorded five of his tunes -- "Matchbox", "Honey Don't",
"Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby", "Blue Suede Shoes", and "Your True
Love". So -- anyone out there ever heard a Beatles version of "Your
True Love"?

Chris Jepson

Bernie Woodham...
What about the Blue Suede Shoes version from that date; are you saying
that's available?

Jeff...
Harrison recorded a fantastic version of the Cole Porter tune called
"True Love."
331/3 is a nice album.

Me...
Yes, 33 1/3 is a very nice album. "True Love" appeared on 1979's
equally nice "George Harrison" album.

BlackMonk...
No, it didn't.

Me...
Yes, you're right. I realized my mistake after I typed that. "George
Harrison" is still a very nice album though. "33 1/3" is too.

Tom Rudge...
They both did, however, play at 33-1/3.

Edvado...
01/03/1969 - The Beatles record a single 1:40 attempt to rehearse this
song, during the "Get Back" rehearsal sessions at International
Recording Studios in Twickenham, St. Margaret's, London England.

Danny Caccavo...
"You're true Love" was on the "Blue Suede Shoes- A rockabilly session
with Carl Perkins" from about 1985. It' wonderful.

Carl Perkins/Your True Love (1955)

Carl Perkins/Your True Love (1985 with George Harrison)

Great stuff!
George sure looks like he's having a lot of fun for a guy who professes
to not see the point in writing most "hey baby, whatcha wanna do" songs
- songs "that in 20 years time (are) just some dumb song that made some
royalties." Which is just what "Your True Love" is - a fun, catchy
trifle...and it's exactly the kind of music that got George hooked in
the first place! You can see how much fun he's having with it.

Me...
It's been documented that Carl was at Abbey Road Studios on June 1,
1964 when The Beatles recorded "Matchbox", "I'll Cry Instead" "Slow
Down" and "I'll Be Back". Perkins didn't play with The Beatles and it's
never been documented that they ever recorded "Your True Love" or "Blue
Suede Shoes".

Chris Jepson...
Thanks. That's what I figured... when I run across a Beatles factoid
such as this, that I've never gotten any whiff of before, I tend to
assume it's untrue... hubris on my part, no doubt.

"Your True Love" (vocal: George) and "Blue Suede Shoes" (vocals: John) were
part of their live repertoire 1957-62 (says Lewisohn), but no recordings
exist from this period.
(The rehearsals in jan. 69 are allready mentioned.)

It's best to avoid Rolling Stone magazine or anything with their name
on it as they're hardly an authority on music. They haven't been for at
least 20 years and now, are more like a poor man's "People" magazine
(of course "People" is a poor man's ___________ (fill in the blank).
You can see how low Rolling Stone has sunk.)
