I'm not an expert in Moody Blues history so please correct me if I'm
wrong. From what I know- they had a hit with "Go Now" in 1964. Their
next big hit was in 1967 with "Days of Future Passed" and "Nights In
White Satin", by which time Denny had left the band. I don't believe
that Denny had much of a following between the time that he left the
band and his hooking up with Paul. Some time in the early 1970s, I
believe that he played with Ginger Baker. I don't think that it's quite
correct to call him a star or that he might have had a successful solo
career without Paul. Clearly, that hasn't been the case since he
stopped playing with Paul, nor was the case in between his playing with
The Moody Blues and playing with Paul. To me, Denny, was just an
adequate, average side man. Paul could have done much better in picking
other people to play with.

I am not a Denny Laine fan or a Moody Blues fan . . . you may be
correct. My point is Denny was a successful professional before he met
Paul, while he was with Paul and after he split with Paul. I am not
aware that any of Paul's former "sidemen" made it very big merely
because they stood in Paul's shadow. To me, especially the way they
were treated, if a musician played with Paul, it meant they had
something to add to their resume.

Playing with Paul in his band is certainly an honor, but how long is
the "sweetness" going to last if someone is being paid little and being
treated poorly, especially if they were promised big bucks and Paul is
not doing what he promised?

Paul should have paid his "sidemen" better and treated them better. It
is a reflection on his character.
I have heard that Paul was cheap but in this video he takes money from
his dad to pay for drinks! He must of been worth a couple million by
this time. Aunt Ginny was quite a looker btw.

You're quite bored.

As I said, I believe Paul is not the most generous man. But if someone in a
book says one thing awhile ago and now says something else...well, then
again, I have no proof that these people said anything of the sort at the
Beatlefest. Just commenting on what some other poster said.

:sigh:

All these decisions we make are being made on pure hearsay. It is virtually
impossible to know what really goes on anymore. For any of us, I suppose.

Still, I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt rather than a round
condemnation based on third party testimony.
