What were the groups that 'invaded' the US at the time of the Beatles?
BlackMonk...
|
The first british group other than The Beatles to have a US #1 was The
Animals. The first to do it with an original song was The Zombies.
Frank from Deeetroit...

"I'm Telling You Now" is an original song by Freddie and the Dreamers and
was the first number 1 after the Beatles in early 1965. The Zombies never
had a number 1 hit in the US, 2 was their highest position.

I always thought the YardByrds were one of the best of that 'invasion'
but what happened to them?
Sean Carroll...
|
They never existed. The Yardbirds, on the other hand, sort of evolved
into Led Zeppelin on the one hand, and Eric Clapton on the other.

And the Jeff Beck Group on the third hand.

Bernie Woodham...

I think the first after the Beatles was the Dave Clark 5. Then there were
a slew of them Gerry and the Pacemakers, Freddie and the Dreamers, Herman's
Hermits, The Animals. The Troggs, (Wild Thing, you make my heart sing),

were a british band.
The Yardbirds went through Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page along
with many less significant personnel. The rights to the name fell to Jimmy
Page who billed them it as "The Yardbirds featuring Jimmy Page". Then he
changed the name to Led Zeppelin.
