Charlie...
Did JL really say this or is it just an urban legend. A quick web-search
finds the quote repeated on many sites, but they're all - "in an
interview John said....", never any actual reference.

Any ideas ???
I've heard that other professional drummers were in awe of Ringo's
playing; something along the lines of "he makes it look easy" and
"how'd he do that?" George's guitar work is often cited as top-notch.

What about Paul's bass playing? How do other musicians rate his fret

I''ve never met anyone who ever said that Ringo was a top notch drummer,

Danny Caccavo...
I'd leave Keltner out of that. He may be one of the most recorded
drummers out there, but I never found him particularly interesting.

Now, Jim GORDON, that's a different story. And a sad one...

and the same goes for George's guitar work, so your statements all
depend on who somebody talks to. I've heard plenty about Paul's Paul's
bass playing though, and Paul is the most influential
bass player in the world.

work?

...
Just listen to "Old Brown Shoe". That high-class bass-playing IMHO.

George plays bass on OBS.

Seth Jackson...
Until I started reading this group, I never heard anyone talk about
Ringo as an exceptional drummer or George as an exceptional guitarist.

You should hang out with more musicians. Ringo Starr is completely

Not to dispute your points about Ringo, but for the record, musicians
are pretty much all I hang out with.

I used to hang out with a lot of musicians, and you mention Ringo to
them...and they thought he was a joke. I never heard he was an

You oughtta hang out with some real musicians.

FaceBend...
You're right..but I quit playing with other musicians half my life time
ago. I was 28.
At my age..I would have to play with musicians about that age now. I

Bill Kawalec...
got to agree with you there. I have never known a musician who disrespects

Bill Kawalec...
Perhaps you've never played with musicians who only care to play hard
rock..or country music. They don't relate to Ringo at all. Also I
never said they disrespected Ringo. I said that
the musicians either had no comment..or said his playing was very
simple. None of the musicians said he sucked..which would be
disrespectful.

(it's still up there, sonny)
"THOUGHT HE WAS A JOKE"

Seth Jackson...
Well, I just came out of a studio session today with a very
accomplished bass player and drummer who make a living playing on rock
and country albums, sessions, and tours. Just for the heck of it, I
asked them what they and most musicians they know thought of Ringo as
a drummer. The answer: "They love him."

Ringo.

doubt they would go for that.

exceptional drummer till I joined this group in 1998. He was called
"Simple" or I heard no comments at all.

Danny Caccavo...
"badass" is not a word I'd use to describe Ringo's drumming.

Most musicians that appreciate feel really appreciate Ringo. Those who
are into technique and don't appreciate feel aren't usually into Ringo.

songs. Ringo wails at times, has an incredible sense of time, and
has a very inventive and artistic approach to his fills and his
playing in general. Ringo's reputation speaks for itself.

Seth Jackson...
Clearly, Ringo has a great sense of time, and he certainly has the
versatility that being a member of the Beatles required. That he
blended in perfectly with the unit that was the greatest rock band in
history has to speak well for him.

What you don't hear from Ringo is the type of monster chops that you
get from a guy like Keith Moon. Of course, it's hard to imagine that
kind of drumming fitting in with the Fab Four, so it's just as well.

Paul, however, has often been mentioned as an exceptional bass player,
and seems to be widely considered to be the best musician in the group
in terms of proficiency at his instrument.
