A DJ on a local radio is playing tracks from a radio promo for the new
Love album.
My thought on "Lady Madonna" is... how odd.

It's nearly terrible...the intro is okay (but I always loved this song
as being to-the-point and this takes away the direct punch of the
original track). The Hey-Bulldog solo that's built in sounds wrong it's
in a different key.... I've heard some track on 'Tuned to a Natural E',
and had doubts about some strange choices, but this sounds just as bad!
|
My thought on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps - take 1" is.... argghhhh!
Awful.

I never liked the song, it seems be be a remix of the
Anthology-version.

Yeah, it's awful. Amazing some people prefer it over the band
version.
|
At least the "Lady Madonna" is a montage of tracks that the Beatles
(plus Eric & Billy) did - "MegaStars on 45".
All he's done with WMGGW is add strings to George's haunting early
version and spoilt it. Totally.

The Strawberry Fields-track is a mesh-up of different takes, a bit
remixed.
I hoped (an still do!) for a decent remix of some original tracks; I'm
not very happy with what I've heard so far

Just hear SFF on the Beatles web site... (didn't hear the other tracks,
since I want to be surprised when I buy the cd)
Anyway, here's my opinion on SFF: it's nice to see how the song
developed from demo to the different versions (are the backing vocals
from take 1?)... the new mix and everything is fine to me 'til the
coda. I think George Martin went a little too far by adding fragments
of Sgt. Pepper, Piggies, Hello Goodbye, etc., because the feeling of
the song is completely gone.
What do you think?

Strawberry Fields; I stilll have doubts about the 'Spectorized'
Lennon-vocal. I agree with the ending; the original is dark, this is
turning into a circus.

Agreed 100% about the "circus". I just thought the same.
Even though it's Cirque du Soleil souindtrack, it doesn's do SFF any
justice!!

I agree on that last opinion, about the added parts from other songs.
I like the basic re-working of the song itself, though.
I knew that "Love" as an album would be very controversial, after I
saw the Cirque. No one is going to love all of it, and many are going
to hate a lot of it and some are going to like a lot of it. It's just
a very controversial re-mixing of the songs. But it was all approved
by the Beatles Inc., and as such we have to accept it for what it is.
I have heard some say they do not like the strings added to My Guitar;
but myself, I loved it at the show. Maybe I'll not like it as well, as
a cd presentation...?
Personally I enjoyed the show a great deal and think the music works
as it is presented at the show. But as an album, I'm sure it's not
going to be my favorite; but I expect to love a few of the tracks.
Mostly I am happy it is in 5.1 and I HOPE this represents a shift in
thinking, that the catalog can be re-issued in 5.1 dts surround sound.

Ever since I heard that version for the first time (in Abbey Road Studio
2 in 1983) it's been my hugely preferred version.

I'm more curious about the remixes than about the mash-ups; I heard some
of them on some Beatlegs and it's somewhere between quite nice and
horrible...I've heard some sound snippets and I'm not that keen on extra
tablas on Here Comes the Sun or the The End-drumsolo mixed with Lady
Madonna...but we'll wait and see...

I have heard a boot of the show and while the sound is bad enough to
nullify any merit as to the sound quality of the remixes i was surprised
that Sun King backwards would sound as good as it did, just as if it were
another song in a different language.

Agreed on all counts: the boot has terrible sound (so much for
the "in-chair" speakers!), but Gnik Nus sounded great. I have
to admit this and the sampler have made me very unenthusiastic
about this release. I thought "wait for the DVD" (I have
enjoyed Cirque shows in the past, back when they were based
here), but the DVD planned for release currently is music only -
I guess they're going to milk the live show for longer before
releasing it. Ah well ... maybe the CBC will do it for one of
their frequent Cirque broadcasts.
