I noted in another thread how great it was to have been born in the
early 50s and to have been a teenager through the Beatles years! The
excitement of each new Beatles release, not to mention the whole
psychedelic era and all that amazing, creative music: the Doors,
Hendrix, Airplane, Stones, etc. etc..
But if you had to have been born in another musical era which would it
have been?
I'd choose the 40's. We still had Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday,
then we had the swing bands, Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman et. al, and
Duke Ellington, and then leading into the be-bop era of Charlie Parker
and all those guys. Fantastic!
(As long as I could somehow avoid going to fight in WWII.)
(Unfortunately the era was nearly ruined by one of the worst wars in
our nation's history. But then, so were the 60's.)

When I was a kid, I always wanted to be on one of the Hal Roach Little
Rascle episodes where they were having some sort of musical variety
show going on. Of course the June Taylor dancers would have had a
dressing room next to mine.

Definitely 30s-40s, where all the greatest melody writers were at their
peak.

I was always delighted to have been born when I was, the halfway point of
the 20th Century, and I cannot think of any other time I would want to be
alive.
