Lookingglass...
A recent post from Mr Watkins concerning a dissertation about the Paris
years of Martinu (rec.music.classical.recordings)... which then lead (in a
roundabout way) to a comment about appreciating the drumming of Keith Moon
(drummer for the rock band The WHO), caused me to wonder how we deal with
the personality of a composer/musician/writer/artist as opposed to their
works...?!? Does it cause you any "discomfort" knowing these things about
the people whose work you appreciate?

It is documented Keith Moon abused his wife... Wagner was an anti Semite...
Picasso did not treat the women in his life very well... John Lennon was
often very sarcastic and
demeaning to his associates...and I am sure there are many other examples...

Paul Ilechko...
Oh boy, we should definitely boycott sarcastic artists. Before you know
it they'll be giving us *irony* next, and then where will the world be?

How do you come to terms with these contradictory facts... great artist/not
so great human being................. ?

John Harrington...
I don't consider Moon, Wagner, Picasso, or Lennon great artists.

That's how.

Ian Pace...
How about Gesualdo?

beartiger...
Don't consider him one either.
