Considering CHAOS AND CREATION IN THE BACK YARD was written during 'happier'
times, I would be very interested to hear what McCartney is writing
today...if he is writing at all. I think if he were to 'let his hair down'
(?), we could be surprised by what he is capable of writing as a 'mature'
artist.

Angielexis...
Well, he has let his hair get grayer. :)

Perhaps he will be inspired to put immerse himself into his work, and
it will be more along the lines of "I'm Looking Through You". I have no
doubt that McCartney could give us all a surprise. I think sometimes
he's fallen into the problem that Stephen King has -- no one is willing
to edit his material and tell him to get rid of certain lines or to
change certain words. Lennon was his equal and able to do that, but I
don't know who else McCartney considers to be on the same level.

Maybe 'Hi Hi Hi pt.2' !

He composed rather well during the ongoing estrangement with Jane, but
then again he was in his 20's when most people are at their creative
peak.

JohnB...
Can you back that up with any research?

There has been a lot of research on this. Buckminster Fuller is one
of many execptions, but generally the research I've read pertains to
science and art. Classical composers and breakthrough scientific
discoveries as I recall, but not set in stone, just a decent
generalization I suppose.

I have heard it said of poets (and by extension lyricists) that they
don't write their best stuff 'til they're 40. I personally don't think
I wrote my best stuff 'til I was in my forties (music or words).
The difference with many, McCartney included, is that domestic bliss
can submerge the sources of inspiration, dull the edge. Also, before
that he had a collaborator (whole greater than sum of parts). Also the
very circumstances of the times they were in would provide inspiration.
However, given the right spark, there could be more good stuff to come
from McCartney yet, either alone or with a new collaborator. Just
don't try to guess what it'll be.

Hmmm, I never thought that this was a particularly happy sounding
album.

And were there "happier" times with the leech? It seems that there was
strife right from the start. I recall one story which stated that
during an argument before their marriage she actually threw her
engagement ring out of a hotel window during one of her tantrums. One
of Paul's people had to retrieve it.

Lookingglass...
That was my 'ironic' point... it was not a particularly 'jolly' recording.
He was rather pensive. Which is why I would be interested in hearing his
most recent output. I find the drop in the level of 'sugar' makes McCartney
a little more interesting to me...IMHO.

We all know that "Chaos and Creation In The Backyard" was recorded
mostly by Paul by himself. I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that
there were sessions done with the band some time in 2002/2003.

If there are finished masters as opposed to jams and just noodling
around, I think that it would fascinating to hear what could be the
other more rocking side of Chaos and Creation.
