I've been searching quit some time for the out of print The complete Beatles
chronicle from Mark Lewisohn...All I can find are used books. And I can't
really figure ot which is the latest version. Can anyone tell me when the
latest UPDATED (?) version was released ad what it looks like (the cover)?

I don't think that Chronicle has been updated since its original issue in
1992. There were three re-publishings that I know about (1992, 1996, 2000)
but in none of those cases was Mark Lewisohn consulted about the reissues
or invited by the publisher, Hamlyn, to update the books. The publisher
controls these editions, not the author.
This is also true for Recording Sessions, as I recall. Corrections welcomed
if I've misremembered.

I also wonder if the Complete Beatles Recording Sessions has ever een
updated... The things is that I bought the book online and it was a version
from 2005! But when I received itI found out it was a complete reprint of
the first release from 1988... which looks pretty awfull, if you ask me. I
remember seeings pictures of another layout (much better looking) and
hearing aboutthe book being updated (for instance after a lot of unreleased
material n 1988 being released on Anthology). So... has the book ever been
really updated? Or not? I feel a bit cheated with my 2005 reprint of the
1988 relese... :(
About the Chronicle: I found this info on the Barnes & Noble site:
Product Details:
ISBN: 0600610012
Format: Paperback, 368pp
Pub. Date: August 2006
Publisher: Octopus Publishing Group
I could wait for that one, but... I'm really very afraid that it will be
another cheap reprintof an OLDER version...
So, to sum things up: which are the LATEST UPDATED version of Chronicle and
Sessions and where can I buy them?

They show up periodically in bookstores like Borders and Barnes & Noble,
usually remaindered. Amazon has some used copies available.
|
One more thing: does Chronicle contain ALL the info from Sessions? Or

|
Nope. In many cases Chronicle expands information from Recording Sessions,
and often RS has info that doesn't appear in Chronicle.

fragments? Did Lewisohn 'copy' all info from Sessions when he wrote
Chronicle and added all other info? Are both books worth having?
saki...
|
Yes, both are worth having, and in fact you'll need a third "The Beatles
Live!" (1986), if you can find it; there are more images there of

If you go to
and search there (I just searched "Lewison" and "Beatles" and got 203
hits) you're bound to find something!
I've bought via that route quite a few times and never ever been
disappointed.
ObDisclaimer. No connection, simply a happy customer recommending them
to others.

handbills, set lists and the like. Books like Lewisohn's are the
cornerstone of any Fabs fan's library, though I fully expect there to be
others over time that supplement and clarify Lewisohn's early works.
And you may also know that Lewisohn is working now on a three-volume
history of the Beatles. The first volume is due for publication in 2008.
