Hey gang. Anyone think if Paul came out with "Yesterday"
today it would be a non event ? Or pick one of John's or
George's songs. Paul still writes songs. Are they THAT
different from what he wrote in the '60s ?

Not sure if a release of Yeasterdy would be a non-event today. When
Yesterday was released, the timers were a little different, less media
outlets, and Beatlmania was at it's peak, yet the song became the most
covered and played song in history. Even though the song was not released
as a single in it's day. Yesterday is a great song. Not sure who said it,
perhaps Frank Sinatra, but the statement that "it's not the artist, it's the
song that make a song great" certainly applies to Yesterday.

It was a single, in it's day, in the largest media marketplace in the
world. The Beatles intended it to be a single, just not in the UK.

Sory about the mix-up, Yesterday was in fact released inthe US as a single
bw Act Naturally. It was not released in theUK as a single until the mid
70's bw I Should Have Known Better. The other Beatles vetoed the idea of
Yesterday as a single in the UK. Yesterday was released in an EP in the UK
in the day.

Wrong.
The Beatles had no input to what singles were released in the
US. Capitol released it because they wanted to, not because
Paul or anyone else told them to do so.

No you are wrong. Paul intended the song for release as a single.
When the others did not want it released in the UK, they all agreed to
the release in the US. For the most part you are correct, Capitol
released whatever they wanted to on singles. ( "Slow Down" and "Eight
Day A Week" and "Nowhere Man" for example), just not in this case.
