"Real Love" better than "Free As a Bird"?

I felt so immediately on hearing "Real Love," a week after the initial
broadcast of "Free As a Bird," which disappointed me. "Real Love" is
delightful. The voices and playing mesh in that indefinable Beatles
way, the song is catchy, and the whole thing seems a "real" Beatles
recording. On the other hand FAAB seemed more obviously the present
Beatles layered on top of John's recording, and the ponderous rhythm
didn't quite seem to jell. I always felt that RL should have been the

I disagree, but to address your question, if Real Love is superior to
the already superior Free As A Bird, it is only by a smidgen of a hair.
Maybe because it contains the word "Love," which lifts the vibration
of anything (it's all you need, ya know!).

Here I go again, disagreeing with everybody...

I like both songs, and I appreciate that we have two new Beatles songs
to add to the canon.

I have always felt that way also. Free as a Bird is horrible, and it
is recorded horribly. I thought this from the first day I heard both.
