Oh, yeah, Attica State. The beginning of a rather embarrassing period in
Lennon's solo career.
Kind of depressing.

Indeed. It was the low point of his songwriting career for sure -
though I suppose the period where he wasn't making any records at all
must have been more depressing still for him.

At least he tried something different from the usual "rock star goes to LA
to record bland albums with session musicans" routine. Too bad he fell into
that routine eventually. Also that the musicians he chose to back him on
STINYC didn't have too many interesting ideas at the time.
Lyrically, I don't know if what he did in that period was much worse than
"god is good without an o." Might even be slightly better.
