Is it John or Paul? Thought I read once that JL played the bass on this.

What was poor about it? It fits the song just perfectly. It's a very
simple song, and if you added
more notes to the bass line...it wouldn't fit the song.

Lewisohn's book has JL playing bass on "Rock Raccoon."

If you listen closely, there are TWO basses on "Rocky Racoon." Probably
John on the Fender Bass VI doubling Paul. Some other tracks on the
White album are like that.
