I can't remember if it was the Pete Shotton or Peter Brown book that
made mention of John completely deconstructing the EMI phaser to see how
to worked. As the tale was spun, the parts were strewn all over the
studio's floor.

Just thought I'd throw that out to see if any other gearhead remembers
that yarn and wonders about it every once in a while, like:

the story never seemed to be substantiated by any other author

would John really extricate a piece of gear from a rack, then unwire all

microknee finger...
It seems unlikely to me, yeah. From everything I've seen and read, John
didn't seem like much of a gearhead. To the contrary, seems like he trusted
other people to worry about that kind of stuff for him.

But who knows? Maybe it was just a one-time thing. Maybe he was high.

why would a story like this just be manufactured into an actual event -
unlike trying to transcribe / recall conversations from thirty or forty
years ago...

I was wondering if Geoff's book alludes to anything remotely related...
