Okay, we got those who want to remix the stereo, those who only want to
remaster the stereo, those who want to remix into 5.1. But does anyone
see any reason to remix the MONO?

An argument can be made that since the albums up though (at least) Sgt.
Pepper were conceived of as mono recordings, that those mixes are the
ones that should be "recreated".

Some Beatles attended the mono mix sessions and gave their tacit
approvals of these mixes. Subsequent stereo mixes are a "mixed" (no pun
intended) bagThe "Pepper" mono mix is significantly different than the
stereo one. "Submarine" "One" . Etc.Scholars Respond.

Here's a provocative question -

If the mono mixes were the approved ones, and all the stereo mixes were
secondary throway mixes, don't you think the powers that be would have
released the mono mixes years ago?

I'm just saying that to make a point. I do think some of the mono mixes
are better than the stereo mixes, but approved or not - many of the
stereo mixes are better than the monos.

Interestingly enough, *fidelity* wise, many of the monos suffer. This
may be because the BTR-1 machines they mixed to were generally older
than the BTR-2 stereo machines (did I get those models right?). There
are exceptions to this rule as well - the "Long Tall Sally" EP (mono)
has terrific fidelity. Yet the mono Pepper does not, and none of the
first 4 albums in mono have the good fidelity of the stereo versions.

If you want mono buy mono . If you want stereo WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Buy whichever mix you want.
