White Album Serial Number

I used to know the history of the serial numbering sequence on the
original White Albums. Haven't been able to find it in my reference
books or when I tried to web-search it.

I bought my copy of the White Album on the day it was released in the
US, 11/25/68.

The serial number is "A1435721".

Obviously, buying it on the day it was released would seem to have
garnered a low number, but there must have been other factors, e.g. how
it was distributed, to what stores, lower numbers sent to major cities
etc., because my numer is still rather high for a first day release.

Anyone remember how that worked?

Mine is A0333846, and I do believe I returned the first one I bought
because it skipped on the intro to "Back In The U.S.S.R.", as lots of
my friends' albums did also.

I have a secondhand copy which is A0512358, but it's not in good
enough shape to be collectable.
