I get it. John and Paul were messing about writing virtually
identically themed songs in India in 1968.
Probably just for a lark or friendly competition ? John for whatever
reason at some point discarded his 'Child of Nature' lyrics and 3 years
hence rewrote the lyrics and used the same tune for 'Jealous Guy'. Paul
obviously
liked "Mother Nature's son" as he included it on the White Album. From
the bootleg
I've heard though, I like "Child of Nature", especially George's ( or
maybe it was John?)
spanish guitar flourishes. John probably thought the lyrics were
mundane. However,
the lyrics of "I'm so Tired" which was included on the White album
were not exactly stellar.
However with John's peerless vocals, the magic would start if he sang
out the ingredients of
a Kellogg's corn flake box.

Good morning, good morning, good

In other words, the White Album seems to be missing what might have
been a really good song ?

Child of Nature Lennon/McCartney 1968

On the road to Rishikesh
I was dreaming more or less,
And the dream I had was true
Yes, the dream I had was true

I'm just a child of nature
I don't need much to set me free
I'm just child of nature
I'm one of nature's children

Sunlight shining in your eyes
As I face the desert skies
And my thoughts return to home
Yes, my thoughts return to home

I'm just a child of nature
I don't need much to set me free
I'm just a child of nature
I'm one nature's children

Underneath the mountain ranges
Where the wind that never changes
Touch the windows of my soul
Touch the windows of my soul

I'm just a child of nature
I don't need much to set me free
I'm just a child of nature
I'm one of nature's children

It's a great tune. I think the lyric is awful though - "touch the
windows of my soul"? blech. I'm so glad he hung on to it for the
lyrically much better "Jealous Guy."

Part of what made the Beatles great was
the decisions made on what to use and what to discard,
and it seems this knack helped them through their early solo releases,
but was clearly on the wane by 73/74. The need to get new material to
market started to outweigh the stringent demands of quality.

Ironically, it seems this insistance of everything being Beatle-worthy
is probably one of the things that made them feel so confined being
Beatles.
