Lookingglass...
Has anyone listened to the 40th Anniversary cover CD of the Beatles
REVOLVER?

It is a very interesting cover of the entire recording, and it comes with a
bonus track...RAIN. There are some radical versions of the songs...

I like the Wilson Pickett influenced TAXMAN. I don't think the 'bluegrass'
ELEANOR RIGBY works. LOVE YOU TO is gloomy. I like the arrangement of HERE,
THERE, AND EVERYWHERE... the artist utilizes the melody that accompanies the
lyric "knowing that love is to share" earlier in the song... nice backward
instrument (?) usage. The 'mechanical' effects used in YELLOW SUBMARINE are
effective, but it moves a little too slowly. SHE SAID SHE SAID is very
minimalist... pretty much bass accompanied (nicely) till they expand late in
the arrangement. GOOD DAY SUNSHINE... cute... (Alvin and the Chipmunks?).
AND YOUR BIRD CAN SING is dismal. I love FOR NO ONE... accordion, guitar and
some harmonica in place of French horn... I can hear Edith Piaf doing this.
How anyone could ruin the 'middle 8' of DOCTOR ROBERT is beyond me, but they
did. I think a wonderful case is made for I WANT TO TELL YOU... not one of
my favorite songs, but in this version it is lovely... I hear a Dear
Prudence influence...lovely. Finally, GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE sounds
like an 'herb' influenced song, with a touch of Lady Madonna. The most
surprising track here is TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS... astonishing!... and no
'effects'. I don't care for RAIN...dreary.

...just my humble opinion... ;^)
