Dude, be sure and tell us all about the hot new Syd Barrett outtake "Cinnamon
Toast" while you're at it.
|
Note: What's the shame Mary Jane is a common effort of Barrett, Lennon
and Ono. This version does not feature Lennon's voice, but an alternate
version that can be found on some Beatles unofficial version provides
Lennon's voice instead of Syd's voice and a slighlty different title:
"What's the news, Mary Jane". Yoko can be heard on both.
I have one of the versions. I still can't figure out whether it is
Lennon or Syd singing. The audio quality is quite bad. But the song is
good.
There are many other rare Syd songs which were never released and I
like them (not even on "The Early Singles" CD on the Shine On box set).

You're right. There was only one complete take recorded, and that was the
the take from august 1968, presented in a weird remix on Antology 3.
It is in fact true that John and Yoko did vocal overdubs on this take i 1969
and prepared a new mix for a Platic Ono Band single release as B-side to You
Know My Name. This new mix, with the new overdubs, has never been officially
released, and may be "the crazier version" referred to. It was NEVER, at any
point, intended for Abbey Road. The single You Know My Name/What's The New
Mary Jane was rejected by The Beatles because the recordnings were by The
Beatles. You Know My Name ended up as B-side to Let It Be, while the latter
remained in the the archives until a remixed surfaced on Anthology 3.
The original clean 6-minute take, and the shorter 1969-remix, can only be
heard on bootlegs.

I have heard "Scream thy last scream, Vegetable man", "King Bee", "Lucy
Leave". Has anybody heard them?
I guess John and Yoko were inspired by Syd. I have the DVD of Pink
Floyd performing at the UFO club and both John and Yoko are in the
audience.

Here is a list of unfinished Floyd material.

And they did not, apparently, yet know each other.
It is said that this was the first time John Lennon saw Yoko Ono.

In the london 66-67 Pink Floyd DVD in which Syd and the gang is
performing, John and Yoko are standing next to each other and holding
hands.

I will go back and check mine again. That's not what
I remember seeing.

I am sorry. I dont remember them holding hands. But he was with
someone. But I do remember seeing Yoko on the video NAKED!

Well, I haven't checked it yet, but as I recall,
he was walking around there with a friend,
and she was doing a performance art there.

Is this the 14 hour Tecnicolor Dream? I thought there was a model doing Cut
Piece, not Yoko herself.
