the audio remix/remaster of the Beatle songs... outstanding! It makes me
long for the release of the entire Beatle catalog... "Please, please me!" I
think I can hear a 'box set' coming 'round the bend...!!!
It puzzles me... the objections to the issue of this recording...I have
never heard any complaints about other interpretations of the Beatles'
catalog by many other artists and orchestras. Bluegrass...string
quartets...Memphis... I mean there are hundreds of interpretations of the
Beatles music...this is another one. Besides, all the original music and
recordings are still there to be listened to and relished.
I am astonished at the obvious influences that George Harrison had on the
partnership of Lennon/McCartney...perhaps not directly contributing to their
compositions, but in his presence at the recordings and quite possibly even
at the creative discussions that must have taken place in the studio... I
can hear George saying "OOOH!!! I LIKE that!", when John and Paul came up
with an interesting lick or musical phrase...etc. He was there afterall.
SOMETHING is gorgeous!
I think that WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS, as interpreted here is equal to
Eleanor Rigby in it's impact...both musically and emotionally. George's
Indian influences permeate this CD collage...tablas and sitars abound. For
poisoned rose...
|
Not really so much an issue of being "George" or "Indian," but just
that pieces with a one-chord drone feel are best suited for mashups.
Anything with a strong pedal point has an edge for being usable.
The album milks such passages throughout the whole album. The end
vamps of "Hello Goodbye" and "Strawberry Fields Forever"..."Tomorrow
Never Knows"/"Within You Without You"...etc.
|
me, this recording really puts George in perspective as it pertains to his
participation in the creative output of the Beatles...he was MORE than the
sum of HIS part. Without George Harrison's participation and influence, John
and Paul's compositions may have been very different.
I am entranced with the GOODNIGHT/OCTOPUS'S GARDEN transition.
I have only listened to LOVE once...so far...I will listen often. I am
impressed by the 'tastefulness' that Sir George and Son used in restraining
themselves...I suppose it could have been 'MORE', but I like what they
did...it truly is wonderful to hear all the bits swirling out of the
speakers. (I haven't done the 5.1 yet.) I am also thankful that the entire
CD is NOT a 'mash-up'. There is just enough of that to make it interesting
between whole songs...and SO MUCH to hear in this recording.
Nicely done...but WHERE OH WHERE is that BOX SET...? How long will we have
to wait?
dancin' dave (...the LOVE you take is equal to the LOVE you make...)
