The original 13 are in the process of remastering, and will include
"selected single and EP cuts" as bonus tracks, along with updated
booklets. No word on availability, of course.
Nell also says that after the overhaul, these WILL be made available
sequentially...
for download.

That's really, really sad, because no matter how many marketing wizards want
to use the term "lossless compression," there is no such thing.

Well, sure there is Bill. Apple Lossess Encoding and Meridial Lossless Packing
are both, well, lossless.
The original waveform is reconstructed absolutely perfectly, with no loss of
information.
So, um, yeah.
Your larger point is correct though -- lossless compression algorithms, being
only roughly half as large as .aiff files, are too big for the iTunes store and
the like.
