On Wikipedia it says the following :
"The album features the talents of Ringo Starr, Peter
Frampton, members of Badfinger, Eric Clapton (who was left
uncredited for over thirty years due to contractual constraints)"
And in the 2001 remaster George himself says that they weren't
allowed to publicise each other's presence on their albums..

Just looking at the 2001 re-issue, and indeed this is exactly what he
(George) says in the notes.
In one sense he's right (Angelo Mysterioso plays on Badge I think!) in
his description of the then record company policy - but he's wrong in
reality as Eric is credited on ATMP.
|
BUT - I have a New Zealand pressing of ATMP from 1970 and it
quite clearly says "Guitar : Eric Clapton" in the credits.
What gives? Was it only UK and US versions that didn't credit
Clapton?

I have a UK edition of the album, bought on the day of release, that
lists Eric (on the inside front cover of the box).
Just goes to show that you can't believe everything that you read in
Wikipedia.
I'll now go off and change this entry - as indeed anyone can.

Now go fix all the 2001 Remastered copies that claim the same
thing :-p

LOL! I was unaware of that!
Perhaps only the extremely rare UK first pressing has him credited, and
unknown to me I have a stunningly valuable record in my collection.
I ***DID*** go and check the album box cover before my earlier posting.
Can other folk with copies of the album perhaps check if Eric is
credited on their copy. On my UK edition, he's listed inside the box
cover on the left, about half way down.

To date, I don't believe that Peter Frampton has been credited on ANY
version of "All Things Must Pass".

I assume that he played guitar, however since he's never been
officially creditded, perhaps he just went out for food between takes
or cleaned the toilets.

It was strange that the credits listed on most albums had guitarists
listed as rythm and/or
lead guitarists...but on George's albums...he just listed the person as
on "Guitar."
It added a mystery as to who played what on guitar. George could have
played lead
on "Beware of darkness"..but it was probably Clapton who played lead.

I bought ATMP about 6 months after it's release, and my copy had
Clapton credited.
I bought more copies as the LP's would wear out..and checked friends
copies of the album,
and on many of the albums..he was credited..and on the rest, he wasn't.
I'm very surprized you never saw a copy in 30 years..where Clapton was
credited. This is the first time..I've heard this.
